Odeda Local Government has reiterated its genuine determination and unalloyed commitment towards partnering with the Nigeria Association of University Women (NAUM), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Chapter while celebrating International Women’s Day.
The Executive chairman of Odeda Local government, Hon, Folashade Adeyemo made this known during a program held on Tuesday, 22nd of March 2022 at FUNAAB, themed: “Breaking
The bias of gender equal world”.
While delivering her goodwill message, Adeyemo stated her concerned towards the differences on female gender that women should endeavor to strive for the best as through history, the central role played by women has ensured the stability, progress and long-term development of nations.
Narrated that, in the 21st century, the issues of gender balance and the need to accord women equal opportunities and allow them achieve their full potentials in the society, have gained more momentum, globally. Adeyemo Overtly affirmed that women should be allowed to succinctly expressed themselves in the engaged societies.
She further posited that an occasion like this should be an avenue to re-awaken self consciousness in women’s nature to, without being partial, they should be given free hand tool to contribute to the developments of this nation Nigeria. In her address, she made a referrence to late chief, Mrs Olufunmilayo Ransom Kuti as she was a legend ,a human right activists and a political campaigner who had paid sacrifices to ensure that women were not relegated to kitchen alone.
Lastly, Chairman advised the younger generation to key-in to the lesson learnt today by waken the giant in them, cultivating the habit to believe that they could become what they want to become in future as nobody could limit them since they are the architect of their lives.
Speaking at the event, Prof Veronica Obatolu, Director of Agricultural Research and Training Obafemi Awolowo University, Ibadan, also stressed the need that there was no part where women were not fixed to, as we all aware that women bear the burden of a failed community where environmental economics and social sustainability is not guaranteed, women perform 75percent of the world unpaid work than men, while empowering women is therefore crucial to accelerating sustainability development in the world.
Present at the venue were Deputy Vice Chancellor of FUNAAB, Professor Clement Adeofun, Consultant on media, Odeda local government, Mrs Adeola Oyetunde, Director of information,Education and sports Odeda Local government, Miss Fadipe Basirat and others.
