President Tinubu’s mother passed away on June 15, 2013, at the age of 96, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of service to family, community, the underprivileged, and the nation.
The Lagosians were excited on Sunday, July 14th, 2024 as the late mother of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reappeared before them and showered loads of prayers on her darling son; President Tinubu (GCFR), grandchildren, Lagosians and Nigerians at large in a playwright Titled “Abibatu Mogaji” An Opera’, which was staged at the GLOVER MEMORIAL Hall in Lagos Island, with His Excellency, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, The current Iyaloja-General of Nigeria and the granddaughter of Abibatu Mogaji Chief Dr. Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu (ARK), top Lagos State government functionaries, and of course a large number of market women and men across the country in attendance.
The play was able to showcase the resilience, philanthropic, sagacious, and prayerful lifestyle of the Lt. Asabi Abibatu Mogaji during her lifetime.
There were numerous lessons learned by the audience. However, as pointed out by both Dr. Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo and her brother Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, there were a couple of omissions that can never be overlooked.
Folasade and Adedamola pointed out that Mama Mogaji was a woman of many parts who also had many children, friends, and associates who were not duly recognized and carried along in the project.
The Kasunmus, Oba Riliwan Akiolu ( the Oba of Lagos), Baba Okunnu, Mama Okunola (the mother of Muri Okunola), the Fasholas to mentioned but a few were not duly carried along both in the project and the documented history.
Both Folasade and Adedamola insisted that there must be a review of the whole story to give room for the inclusion of some notable members of Mama Mogaji’s dynasty.
Ola Awakan and his team apologized for the omissions, and He promised to do the needful as soon as possible.
Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu gave his closing remarks by thanking Ola Awakan for keeping the fond memories of his late Grandmother alive, after which the current Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Chief Dr Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo also charged Ola Awakan and his team to take note of all omissions earlier mentioned and ensure that those corrections are effected immediately.
Folasade thanked His Excellency Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu for finding time to attend the memorable event alongside his team, she thanked all the Market women and men present, all the invited guests, the cast and crews of “Abibatu Mogaji” and the gentlemen and ladies of the press, She prayed for her beloved father, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his cabinet to succeed in their quest to make Nigeria a pride of all, she prayed for God to grant Mr. president, long life and wisdom to lead the nation right.
