Our attention has been drawn to the appointment of one Mr. Ismail Mustapha as the Chairman of Transport committee for Ijebu North local government area.
While we agree that the council boss, Hon. Bolaji Odusanya, has the constitutional right to appoint individuals that will work with his administration. We would like to remind him of the likely consequences of Mr. Mustapha’s appointment.
At the moment, Mr. Mustapha is not a member of the transport union recognized by Gov. Dapo Abiodun led administration. Recall that Gov. Abiodun in June 2019 proscribed the activities of Mr. Ismaila’s-led Ogun state chapter of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to prevent crisis in our Parks and Garages in Ogun State.
After months of consultation with critical stakeholders in the sector, Gov. Dapo Abiodun established Park Management Services Ltd (PAM) to collect revenue from cars and buses on behalf of the government during NURTW week. At the moment, there is peace in our parks and garages across the state.
In less than 24 hours of Mustapha’s appointment my office has recieved complaints from different garrages head in the local government area over his appointment as the Chairman Transport committee of the council. Stakeholders of transport unions like PAM, RTEAN and others have made it known to me that in as much as they are ready to work with the local government authorities they will not work with an individual who is not a member of any of the transport unions recognised by the Ogun State government.
Appointing Mr. Mustapha as the Chairman Transport committee for the local government area is as good as returning members of the proscribed NURTW to our parks and garrages which might trigger unhealthy rivalry among unions in the local government area.
Transport sector is a very sensitive one. So, care must be taken when appointing individuals that will act on behalf of government.

We are appealing to the Ogun state government, the Chairman Ijebu North local government, Hon. Odusanya, the Ogun state House of Assembly and security agencies to swift into action to prevent possible unrest in our parks and garages in Ogun State.
